The Travel Channel introduces a whole new world of treasure hunting to viewers and we couldn’t be more happy with our newest treasure find! We had the pleasure of purchasing a lovely antique piece from Laurence and Sally Martin, antique store owners from sunny southern California. If you are a fan of the show Storage Wars like us, you’ll remember Laurence and Sally appraising Barry’s silver flask that turned out to be a pocket spittoon, and another memorable episode when Barry brought in a not-so-valuable cuckoo clock. You can probably remember several others, too.

Laurence and Sally have been battling it out on their own show, “Baggage Battles” over the past couple of years, using their vast knowledge of antiques, jewelry and other merchandise on a different playing field: the unclaimed baggage at police impounds, airports and even unclaimed cargo from shipping companies. They are also avid ebay sellers like us who turn around and showcase their finds to the world by adding them to their eBay store.
That’s how we came to buy this wonderful antique treasure from time’s past that was seen on one of the Baggage Battles episodes. It was a piece Illya fell in love with the first time he saw it aired on the show. I can’t even begin to express his joy when he found it listed for sale in their eBay store.
A rare antique Garrard (Maker of fine jewelry for example: The Crown jewels – made the last crown for the queen) Telescopic Pencil with 1673 Registry Mark, with Sterling Silver Double Albert Chain Fob, complete with photograph of piece being worn by original owner. An unusual find, it was discovered by Laurence and Sally Martin in an item obtained by them on the second episode (S01E02: London) of Baggage Battles.
Laurence and Sally feel that this is one of their most interesting (and unexpected) finds on Baggage Battles. With a Telescopic Pencil made by the same maker as the English Crown Jewels, this is a one-of-a-kind piece, complete with period photograph, that we are privileged to own and add to our treasured collection!
Stay tuned for more great treasures…..
Can’t wait to see what stuff you found this week. Have a good week!
