Wow, I can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting to announce the news. Back in April, when we made the decision to get back into selling online on eBay and offering consignment full time, I hadn’t the slightest idea that we’d be volunteering to manage and running a secondhand store and supporting our local animal rescue by the end of the year.
Supporting Local Animal Rescue
We met Susan Wallace, founder of Scooter’s Pals, a non-profit, all-volunteer, all-breed, last-chance dog (and a few cats) animal rescue in May. We began selling items for Scooter’s Pals on eBay to help raise funds for Scooter’s. A few months ago, Susan approached us with an idea to open a quality secondhand shop and have us manage and run the secondhand store volunteering our time and dedication to supporting such a great cause while still continuing to sell our own personal items on eBay. For Scooter’s Pals, this is an opportunity to help earn the much needed funds to help pay vet bills, for medications, collars and leashes, food and more for rescues on their way to a forever loving home.

For us, it’s a great opportunity to meet new clients while still managing our family business and doing something we truly enjoy. While we manage the day to day operations of the secondhand store, we’ll also be taking in donations and determining not only what items can be sold in the store but also what items might possibly do better selling online worldwide to customers. Shoppers worldwide and even in the community can make a difference with every purchase. Here’s how:
You’ll soon see eBay listings in our eBay store with a blue and yellow ribbon that supports Scooter’s Pals through the eBay Giving Works Program. Shop for everyday items, collectibles and more in support of Scooter’s Pals and find great gifts for the holidays. We need all sorts of things — we need furnishings and racks and display cases, not to mention all the merchandise the store will sell, since we are just getting started.
What we’re hoping for is to have an upscale feel with quality by getting gently used goods, clothing, household items, and maybe small furniture. I know there may be mixed feelings out there on whether or not we need another thrift store, but what I’ve learned, is that it’s not a competition, it simply adds to the mix. We earn the steady source of income for the animals, offer a variety of treasures to those who love to thrift, bring business to other neighbor businesses while providing a community service. There’s a large group of people who love to go thrift shopping and we hope to get on their route. We’re excited about the location and the kind of store it aims to be. It’s not going to be your average thrift shop. It will be a thrift shop that will bring in a stable and consistent income while offering the community a meaningful community service, a “green” business. Picture a nice, open, sunny shop offering high-quality, gently used fashions for women and men, jewelry, home goods, books and small furniture at affordable prices in a well traveled area with convenient parking. Now add a knowledgeable, customer-friendly management staff . That is our vision.
Scooter’s Place Quality Secondhand Store will be open the first week in December. We are now accepting quality donations on Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm or by appointment on other days. If you have good items to donate and cannot deliver them, call us. If they are small-to-medium sized, you can make an appointment to have items picked up. Call (530) 320-2099 for further information. All donations received benefit Scooter’s Pals.
Scooter’s Pals & Scooter’s Place Quality Secondhand Store is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All proceeds benefit the animals.
Grumpy Treasures Thrift & Consignment Disclaimer: We run and manage Scooter’s Place Quality Secondhand Store as volunteers. We accept and pick up donations on behalf of Scooter’s Pals and a tax donation receipt from Scooter’s Pals is provided upon request. Store proceeds benefit the animals rescued by SCOOTER’S PALS, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Each item you purchase helps provide food, vet care, fostering and a second chance at life to animals that would otherwise die in high-kill shelters.
